Showa Big Piston Forks
Separate function units at the front, which is a considerable specification at this price and the clearest sign of where Triumph spent the money.
Clip-Ons Above the Yoke
High enough that the bike works on a road for a full day. It is the decision that separates the Daytona 660 from the supersport machines it resembles.
The Interlock
Triumph stops the engine if a gear is selected while the stand is extended. It is a straightforward protection against a mistake that catches experienced riders.
Why the Stand Comes Off
Weight, ground clearance and an organiser who would rather not see one. It is among the first components removed from any bike heading to a circuit.
Answered, Not Bridged
The eliminator presents the state the controller expects. A length of wire across the terminals presents something else and frequently earns its own warning.
What Failure Actually Looks Like
The engine cuts as a gear is selected at a junction, restarts perfectly in neutral and behaves for a fortnight afterwards. It is the intermittency that makes a failing sidestand switch so unpleasant to diagnose, because the fault is never present when anybody is looking for it.
Preparation Order
Lights, mirrors, plate, stand, then everything else. Fitting the eliminator immediately after the stand comes off means the engine will run in gear for the rest of the evening's work, which is the only way to test anything else.
The Complete Diagnosis
Before ordering anything, check whether the stand is straight, whether the switch is packed with mud and whether the connector is corroded. Any one of those produces the symptoms, and two of them are free to fix. Only when the switch itself has failed or the stand has gone does an eliminator become the right answer.
The Cheapest Diagnosis First
Clean the switch, check the connector and straighten the bracket before ordering anything. Two of those cost nothing and one of them usually works.
