The JP ES 041 replaces the Monster 1200 R's plastic reed housing with a billet cover that seals on an O-ring and has nothing inside it left to age.

The Reed Assembly
A moulded housing holding one reed per port, bolted to the cylinder head and fed by a hose from the airbox. It is the half that physically admits the air.
Fitted Cold
There is no reason to attempt this on a warm engine and every reason not to. Aluminium threads and hot castings are a poor combination.
An Older Head, Careful Threads
On a machine past a decade the threads have been undisturbed for years. Working slowly is worth the extra minutes it costs.
Doing It With the Head On
Nothing requires the engine to be opened. The housing bolts to an external face and the cover replaces it in the same position.
Where the Airbox Sits
On the V4 it is under the tank and above the engine, which makes reaching anything below it a matter of patience rather than difficulty.
Torque, and Why It Matters Here
The fasteners thread into an aluminium cylinder head and Ducati specifies a low figure for good reason. Exceeding it is the commonest way a twenty-minute job becomes a thread repair and a considerably longer weekend, and it is entirely avoidable by looking the number up once.
Working Around the Belts
On the older twins the cambelt covers sit close to where the hand needs to go, and it is worth knowing which fasteners are which before starting. Nothing about the secondary air housing requires the belt covers to come off, and taking them off unnecessarily invites a job nobody wanted.
