The Last Trellis Monster
Ducati ended this generation in 2021, which makes the 1200 S the final development of a chassis philosophy the company had used for three decades.
One Evening, Not Two
The tank comes off once. Anybody who fits only the electrical half and orders the mechanical one later pays for that access twice over.
Before Any Dyno Work
Air entering the exhaust after combustion moves the readings, and every decision taken from those readings inherits the movement.
Type Approval

The Reed Argument
A cracked reed lets exhaust gas back towards the filter, and the residue shows up in the airbox long before anybody suspects the system.
Potted Against Water
The electrical half lives in the open under the tank, so it is sealed as a unit rather than assembled from heatshrink and hope.
What the Secondary Air System Does
It admits fresh air into the exhaust ports after combustion so that leftover hydrocarbons finish burning in the pipe rather than leaving it. The measurement improves without the combustion changing, which is exactly why removing it costs nothing in power.
Cold Engine, Correct Torque
Aluminium threads in a warm cylinder head strip more easily than most people expect, and the specified figure for the head fasteners is low. Waiting for the engine to cool and looking the number up once is the entire difference between a short evening and a thread repair.
Photograph the Hose Routing
Before anything is disconnected, a picture of how the lines run costs a minute and answers every question that comes up during reassembly. It also settles which fitting at the airbox has to be closed, which is the detail most often discovered too late.
