Eight Hundred Cubic Centimetres
A ninety-five horsepower triple in an adventure chassis, which gave the Tiger 800 a character no parallel twin rival could match.
XC and XR
Spoked wheels with a twenty-one inch front for one, cast rims and a road bias for the other. Triumph split the range properly.
A Decat Makes It Worse
A freer exhaust does not create the noise, it merely stops muffling it. Owners chase the sound through silencers for months before anybody explains where it comes from.
Emissions Testing
Where periodic inspection covers this equipment, an absent valve is a straightforward failure. Refitting it beforehand is an evening rather than a workshop visit.

Anybody diagnosing this motorcycle in five years will assume the emissions hardware is standard. A note in the service book saves an hour of confusion.
Keeping the Motorcycle Sellable
A stored fault code on a modern Triumph is visible to any dealer with a laptop, and it costs more at trade-in than the part costs new. Answering the circuit properly avoids the deduction.
The Filter Tells the Story
Pull the airbox lid on a high-mileage Triumph and the state of the filter says whether the reeds have been passing gas the wrong way. It is the cheapest diagnosis available.
Why Triumph Cannot Simply Omit It
Because the type approval for every market that mandates the system is granted on the basis that it is present and functioning. The manufacturer has no discretion here and no reason to make the aftermarket's job easier.
What the Handbook Says
Nothing at all about removing the system, because Triumph has no reason to document a change it does not sanction. The silence is not evidence that the job is difficult.
