A Ninety Degree Twin
The V-Strom's 1037 cc engine descends from the original TL1000 and it has the character to prove it. It is one of the more likeable adventure bike motors.
Built for Distance
Suzuki aimed the V-Strom at riders covering serious mileage on tarmac rather than at anybody serious about gravel. It does that job extremely well and quietly.
Secondary Air
Fresh oxygen into the exhaust ports so unburnt fuel burns in the header. Emissions hardware, and the source of the popping on a closed throttle.
The Monitored Solenoid
Checked by the ECU at every start. Removing it without an eliminator produces a fault that will not clear.
The Mechanical Half
A cover for the head ports finishes the job. Fitting only the electrical eliminator silences the dash and leaves the air flowing.
Three Model Years
The fitment covers 2017 to 2019 before the 1050 replaced the model. The emissions arrangement is consistent throughout.
Honest Fuelling
Injected air makes the lambda sensor report a lean mixture that does not exist. Any remap should start with the system removed.
Emissions Approval
The PAIR system is part of the road registration, which matters on a motorcycle that crosses borders regularly.
Reversible
Suzuki's own connector, nothing spliced. Everything refits for an inspection quickly.
A Twin Descended From the TL
Suzuki's ninety degree V-twin began life in the TL1000S, a motorcycle with a reputation it never entirely shook off. Detuned and given a decade of development it became one of the most durable adventure engines anybody builds, and V-Stroms routinely pass two hundred thousand kilometres without the bottom end being opened.
