Fourteen Hundred and Forty-One Cubic Centimetres
A hundred and ninety-seven horsepower from an inline four built for one purpose. The ZZR1400 was the fastest thing Kawasaki sold for a decade.
Ram Air
Ducts in the fairing nose feed the airbox at speed, adding power the dyno figure does not show. It is the reason the top speed claims were so contested.
KLEEN
Kawasaki calls it the Clean Air System, and it does what every manufacturer's version does: admits filtered air into the exhaust ports on a closed throttle so leftover mixture finishes burning there. The name is the only thing that distinguishes it and the badge appears on nothing a rider ever sees.

The system is most active during warm-up, so a cold start and a short ride is the honest check that the change has done what it should.
A Very Common Complaint
Owners describe it as popping, backfiring or crackling, and it is the single most discussed characteristic of a modern Kawasaki four with an open pipe.
What a Workshop Reader Would See
Nothing at all, because the circuit answers the self-test rather than avoiding it. That distinction matters when the motorcycle returns to a dealer for something entirely unrelated.
Done Right, Invisible
Correctly fitted, nothing about the motorcycle indicates the change except the absence of a noise and the absence of a warning on the panel.
Different on a Track Bike
Where there is no approval to lose and no inspection to pass, the only remaining question is whether the work is neat. That makes this an easy decision on a machine that has left the road.
Two Halves, One Decision
Kawasaki splits the system between an electrical circuit and a mechanical assembly, and the aftermarket follows. Doing both is a complete deletion; doing one is a partial one, and there is no shame in stopping halfway if that is what the owner wants.
