A Hundred and Sixty-Two Horsepower
From the Testastretta 11 degree twin, which made the first Diavel quicker than most sports bikes of its day in a straight line.
The Smallest Lamp on the Motorcycle
It illuminates the registration plate and nothing else, and Ducati monitors it exactly as carefully as the headlight. Very few owners know it has its own circuit.
Two Warnings, Two Parts
A full rear conversion needs the tail light answered as well. Buying one and expecting the panel to clear is a common and understandable mistake.
Why Ducati Monitors It
Lighting failures are a roadworthiness matter, and modern regulations require the motorcycle to notice them. The plate lamp is included whether anybody expected it or not.
A Modification With a Long History
Riders have been shortening plate hangers for as long as motorcycles have had them, and manufacturers have been monitoring lighting circuits for nearly as long. The two habits have never sat comfortably together.
Why It Is Monitored at All
European type approval requires a motorcycle to detect lighting failures, and the plate lamp is part of the lighting system whether anybody thinks of it that way or not.
The Complete Rear Conversion
Hanger off, indicators changed, tail light dealt with, plate lamp circuit answered. Owners generally discover the last of those after the first three are finished and the warning appears.
Access
On most Ducatis the seat lifts with the key and the connector sits immediately behind it, which makes this a ten-minute job with no bodywork removed. Sports models with a structural tail section may need it loosened, adding a few minutes rather than turning the job into an evening.
What Happens to the Old Bracket
The original plate holder generally comes off in one piece with the lamp still attached to it, which makes it easy to keep as a unit. Bagged whole rather than dismantled, it goes back on in ten minutes, and the fasteners staying with it is what makes that true.
