DescriptionThe whole story▼
Heat shields are the carbon parts that have to justify themselves twice: once on looks, and once on the thing they are named after. This two-piece set covers the DesertX silencer where your right leg and, on a loaded bike, a soft pannier come closest to it. Carbon is a poor conductor across its thickness, which is exactly the property you want here.
Key Features
- Two-piece set covering the exposed run of the standard DesertX silencer
- Carbon conducts heat poorly through its thickness, so the outer surface stays far cooler than the pipe behind it
- Louvred profile keeps an air gap between shield and silencer instead of clamping straight onto it
- Autoclave-cured laminate, dimensionally stable at the temperatures a silencer skin reaches
- Four surfaces: clear coat, matt, satin and raw — raw is the usual choice next to a hot pipe
The Air Gap Does Half the Work
A shield that touches the silencer is a heat bridge, not a shield. The geometry here holds the panel off the pipe on its mounts, so the layer that actually insulates is the moving air between the two. The carbon then stops radiated heat from reaching your boot or a pannier, and the slots let the trapped air escape upwards rather than cooking in place.
On finish: a clear lacquer next to an exhaust is the one place where the coating can eventually discolour if the shield is mounted closer than intended. Raw carbon has nothing to discolour, which is why it is the pragmatic choice on this particular part.
Fitment and Compatibility
Ducati DesertX, 2022 to 2026, on the standard silencer. This set is cut for the original exhaust — if the bike carries the Termignoni silencer, the matching part is MD-DX22-C62 instead.
Road Approval
Fullsix does not publish an ABE or an EC type-approval number for this set. The shields do not alter the exhaust system itself, but anything mounted to an exhaust can attract attention at inspection; confirm the position for your registration before road use.
What Is in the Set
This is a two-piece set, not a single wraparound shield. The pieces cover different sections of the silencer run and mount independently, which is why they can follow the shape of the can more closely than one long panel could. Both pieces are supplied together under the single order code — you do not order the sections separately.
The finish decision here is unusually one-sided. Anything mounted near an exhaust is exposed to sustained heat, and while the laminate itself is unaffected, a lacquer layer will eventually take on a slight tint if the shield is mounted tighter than intended or the bike is worked hard in slow going. Raw carbon has nothing to discolour and is what most owners choose on this part.
