The Carbon Heat Shield
Most silencers in this price bracket use a metal heat shield or none at all. This one carries a handmade carbon fibre shield with the end cap imprinted to match, which is the visible difference between it and a cheaper aftermarket can.
On a small sportsbike where the silencer sits in plain view alongside the rear wheel, that finish is a good part of what is being paid for.
Sound Tuned for a Parallel Twin
Akrapovic describes the sound as dedicated tuning for a parallel twin engine. A 321 cc twin has a light, high-revving note that a badly matched silencer turns thin and buzzy, and the internal work here is aimed at keeping it deep rather than simply loud.
A removable noise insert is supplied, so the reading can be brought down for a circuit with a static limit.
One Point One Kilograms
2.86 kg standard to 1.75. In percentage terms 38.8, which is a smaller share than several systems in this catalogue take — but the 2022 R3 already came with a comparatively light silencer, so there was less to remove than on the previous generation.
Where the Power Comes
37.3 PS to 38.4, with the increase recorded at 10,900 rpm and the torque gain of 0.5 Nm at 9,700. Both are high in the range, which is where a 321 cc twin does its work anyway.
Nobody buys a slip-on for a 42 PS motorcycle to gain one horsepower. The kilogram, the sound and the carbon are what this is for.
The Newer Generation
Yamaha restyled the R3 and MT-03 for 2022 with new bodywork and a Euro 5 engine. Machines from 2014 to 2021 need different parts, and Akrapovic lists several for them including a complete Racing Line.
Approved, Which Is the Point
EC and ECE type approval plus Euro 5 compliance means this silencer stays legal on a German road with no entry in the vehicle documents. On an A2 motorcycle that matters — most owners of these bikes are riding on a restricted licence and cannot afford an argument about the exhaust.
