Two point eight kilograms off a small Kawasaki, and only five decibels more noise for it. That combination is unusual: most exhausts that take away this much weight also take away the quiet, and this one keeps a static reading of 93 dB where the factory part reads 88.

Sixty-Three Per Cent
Kawasaki fits a 4.4 kg silencer to a motorcycle that weighs about 172 kg ready to ride. That is a big steel can with the converter feeding it, and it hangs on the right-hand side well behind the rear axle.
The carbon replacement weighs 1.6. Losing 2.8 kg from that position on a small, light machine is felt in a way the same saving on a superbike would not be — there is simply less motorcycle for it to disappear into.
The Approval Is the Catch
There is none. Akrapovic states that this product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use, and a Ninja 300 with it fitted is a track motorcycle.
That matters more here than on most bikes in this catalogue. The Ninja 300 and Z300 are A2 machines, often a first motorcycle, often ridden to work — and the owner who fits this on the road is risking exactly the licence they have just earned.
Why It Is Still Quiet
Five decibels is a modest step, and the reason is that this is a slip-on: Kawasaki's headers and catalytic converter both stay on the motorcycle. Only the silencer changes, so only part of the sound path changes with it.
A removable insert comes with it as well, for circuits that measure static noise at the gate.
The Power Figures Are Honest and Small
32.7 PS to 33.1, and 24.2 Nm to 24.4. Four tenths of a horsepower on a 296 cc twin is nothing anyone will feel, and there is no point dressing it up.
What is worth noting is where the torque gain sits: 6,050 rpm, low for a small twin, which is the part of the range a rider uses leaving a corner rather than chasing a lap time.
Three Names, One Silencer
The Ninja 300, the earlier Ninja 250 and the naked Z300 share a chassis and an exhaust route. One part covers them from 2013 to 2016, after which Kawasaki replaced the platform with the Ninja 400 and Z400.
A Bike People Keep
These are cheap, reliable, endlessly serviceable motorcycles, and a great many of them are now second or third owner track bikes and club racers. That is the customer for a carbon slip-on with no road approval.
