DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two point nine kilograms out of a link pipe. BMW's standard part weighs 3.5 kg because it carries a pre-muffler; this one weighs 0.6 because it does not. That is 82.9 per cent, and it is the whole story of the part.
Key Features
- 0.6 kg against a standard 3.5 — 82.9 per cent removed
- Deletes the standard pre-muffler entirely
- Stainless steel, for use with the Slip-On Line (Titanium)
- Also fits the Akrapovic exhaust BMW fits as original equipment
- It ends the EC and ECE approval of that slip-on
- Remapping is recommended
The Cost of Those Kilograms
A road-legal silencer stops being road legal the moment this pipe joins it. Akrapovic writes that its own EC and ECE certificate for the titanium slip-on ceases to apply, and no paperwork restores it afterwards.
Anybody weighing 2.9 kg against a type approval should have that sentence in front of them before the order, not after.
It Also Fits the BMW-Branded Exhaust
A useful detail that is easy to miss: Akrapovic states the pipe fits the F 900 GS Akrapovic original first-fit exhaust system — the one BMW sells with the motorcycle.
Plenty of F 900 GS buyers specify that exhaust from the dealer without ever seeing an Akrapovic part number. If your GS came with a titanium silencer from the factory, this pipe very likely suits it.
One Chamber, Three Kilograms
BMW puts a silencing chamber upstream of the main can, and on the F 900 GS that chamber accounts for nearly the whole 3.5 kg of the standard assembly. Delete it and 0.6 kg remains.
Every gram of the saving and every decibel of the increase come from that same deletion. There is no version of this part that gives one without the other.
The Check Light on Euro 5+
Akrapovic notes that on Euro 5+ machines with two lambda sensors the engine check light will appear once the ECU registers a deviation in the catalytic converter's readings. That is expected behaviour rather than a fault.
Remapping is recommended, and on a machine used competitively it should be done regardless.
Three Model Names
BMW's 895 cc parallel twin runs in the F 800 GS, the F 900 GS and the F 900 GS Adventure from 2024. They differ in suspension travel, tank size and equipment, and share the exhaust route.
Stainless Steel
Not titanium. On a connecting pipe that is buried between two other parts and never seen, steel is the sensible material — it survives heat cycling and gravel strikes, and it keeps the price of an accessory in proportion to the silencer it serves.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use, and it removes the approval the slip-on carried.
