DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Monster 1200 ridden with enthusiasm empties its tank sooner than its owner expects, and the fuel warning has a way of lighting up far from a pump. Then comes a job nobody practises: pushing a heavy naked bike along the edge of the road, often on a cambered verge with loose grit, a ditch on one side and traffic on the other. It is a slow, awkward way to drop a motorcycle. Accossato's TP080 crash pads are listed for the Monster 1200 from 2014 to 2018, cut from aluminium with an anodised insert in the colour of your choice.
Key Features
- Crash pads for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2014 to 2018
- Accossato TP080, pack of two
- Machined from aluminium on CNC equipment
- Insert anodised in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Optional screw cover in the insert colour
- Fairing drilling needed on some bikes: please ask us before ordering
- No German ABE on record; for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the TP080 from aluminium, machined on CNC equipment, and gives each pad an anodised insert that brings the colour: blue, green, black, red, silver or gold. The screw cover is optional and comes in the insert's colour if you want the fixing concealed. A pack contains two pads. On the Monster 1200, where there is little bodywork to hide behind, the pads are meant to be the first point of contact if the bike falls, and that can reduce the damage to the frame and the panels around them. After a heavy hit, change the pad rather than trusting a cracked one.
Pushing a Monster Along the Verge
If the tank runs dry, the first decision is whether to push at all. On a busy road, calling a breakdown service or a friend with a can is often the safer choice. If the next fuel station is close and there is a wide verge, push from the left with both hands on the grips and your hip against the tank, so that the bike leans slightly towards you rather than away. Keep the bars straight and a finger on the front brake, because a gentle slope can turn a push into a runaway. Where traffic keeps to the right, that position puts you on the traffic side, so wear something bright, keep well to the edge and take your time. Rest before your arms tire, and each time you stop, put the side stand down on firm ground. The Monster 1200 feels light once it rolls, but it is a heavy machine when it leans past its balance point. At the pump, fill up with the engine off and the bike on its stand.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list shows the TP080 for the Monster 1200 in two rows, 2014 to 2016 and 2017 to 2018, and we have linked it to the whole span. Accossato notes that some motorcycles need holes drilled in the fairing for its crash pads without saying which, so please ask us before ordering whether that is the case for your Monster 1200. The PF05 front axle sliders and the PP069 rear sliders are also available for this bike, and for 2019 to 2021 there is the PF049 front pair. The same pads appear in our shop for the Monster 821 and the Monster 1200 S.
Road Approval
Neither a German ABE nor a test mark for the TP080 is known to us, which is why we supply the pads for motorsport and competition.
