DescriptionThe whole story▼
On the Channel coast of northern France, beach racing has a long tradition, with Le Touquet as its most famous venue. Hundreds of riders race long laps of sand straights and dune sections, and big four-strokes such as the TM Racing EN 450 four-stroke feel at home there. The hard part is the turn at each end of the beach, where the sand is churned into deep ruts and braking holes. Accossato's B8206 is a folding front brake lever for the EN 450 four-stroke from 2003 to 2019, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the TM Racing EN 450 four-stroke, 2003 to 2019
- Covers Accossato's two groups: bikes up to 2009 and from 2010 to 2019
- Takes the place of the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Shorter blade for three fingers
- Anti-break hinge lets the blade fold rather than break
- CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Blade in black, blue, gold or red
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Sand is hard on everything it touches. Accossato mills the B8206 from a solid block of Ergal 7075, an alloy much stronger than the aluminium of everyday objects, on CNC machines in Italy, with strength, reliability and low weight as its declared goals. The lever is made of two pieces: a dark base on the master cylinder pivot and a blade, available in black, blue, gold or red, fixed to it by a hinge. The brake blade is the shorter shape in Accossato's range, meant for three fingers, so the little finger and thumb keep hold of the grip on the roughest straights.
Braking Where the Beach Turns
After a long sand straight at full speed, the turn at the end of the beach arrives quickly. Riders brake hard while the sand is still firm, then roll into ruts that grow deeper every lap, and the front brake has to be used with care: too much and the front tyre ploughs into soft sand and stops, too little and the bike runs wide into the dunes. On a big four-stroke 450 those braking zones get rougher as the race goes on, and holding the lever steady over the holes is tiring work.
Crashes at these turns are frequent and usually slow. A bike stalls in a rut and falls over, or another rider slides into you. In soft sand a lever may be buried rather than broken, but when the EN 450 four-stroke goes down with another bike on top, the forces can be large. In such a moment the B8206's blade is free to fold forward on its hinge, which improves the chances of lifting the TM out of the sand with its brake lever whole. Nothing survives every pile-up, but in a race where finishing is already an achievement, a lever that folds is a useful ally.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8206 for the TM Racing EN 450 four-stroke from 2003 to 2019, in two groups that divide between 2009 and 2010, and fits it to the original front brake master cylinder. The C7283 folding clutch lever is listed for the bikes from 2010 to 2019; earlier EN 450 four-strokes can be fitted on the brake side only. Gold is available only on the brake lever, orange only on the clutch lever.
Road Approval
The B8206 carries no German ABE. On a road-registered EN 450 four-stroke it is not approved for public roads; it is intended for off-road use and competition, beach races included.
