Ruler is the only graphic family on the Falcon S, and A15 pairs white with dark blue — the more conventional of the two, and the one that reads most clearly from the side of a track.
A motocross helmet — goggles, not a visor
Everything that makes this helmet good off-road makes it poor on it. The wide goggle aperture is an enormous opening for air; the peak catches wind; and the multiple intakes that keep a working rider cool also let cold air in at road speed.
🔵 That is not a fault. It is what an off-road helmet is, and the Falcon S is an honest example of one.
About the Ruler A15 graphic
Motocross graphics have a job beyond decoration, and it is worth understanding before choosing. A rider on a track is identified from a distance, at speed, usually against a busy background of banners, bikes and spectators — and a graphic with large, high-contrast colour fields survives that far better than a subtle one. White against dark blue is about as far apart in value as a two-colour scheme gets, which is why it stays legible in dust and at distance. The dark blue areas also do the practical work of hiding spatter that would show immediately on a fully white shell. 🔵 The usual caveats apply: a printed graphic cannot be touched in after a stone strike, and this helmet will take stone strikes — though the peak takes most of them, and peaks are replaceable. Of the four finishes here this is the one that most obviously reads as a race helmet rather than a trail one, which suits a rider spending more time at a gate than on a green lane. The white areas will show a wet session immediately; the blue ones will not, so the helmet weathers unevenly rather than uniformly.
ECE 22.06 — and the DOT the older Falcon had
Full ECE 22.06 homologation is the single most important specification on an inexpensive off-road helmet, because a good number of budget MX lids are still sold against the superseded 22.05.
🔵 The Falcon S holds the current standard. It does not carry a published DOT approval, unlike the model it replaces.
HIRP and 1350 grams
The structure is conventional and appropriate: an injection-moulded HIRP shell to spread the load and resist penetration — relevant off-road, where the environment includes stones and footpegs — over a polystyrene liner that absorbs energy by permanently crushing.
🔵 A crushed liner does not recover. After a real impact the helmet is finished, whatever it looks like from outside.
The adjustable peak
🔵 Peaks are the most-replaced part on any motocross helmet, and that is by design rather than by fault — they are meant to give way. A replacement costs a fraction of a helmet, so a broken peak is not a reason to write one off.
The Falcon S's is adjustable for angle and removes for cleaning.
Intakes, extractors and why an MX helmet runs cool
The largest air intake on this helmet is the goggle aperture itself, which is true of every off-road helmet and is why they are dramatically cooler than road lids in summer.
🔵 The same opening is why the helmet is cold and loud on a road transfer. Both facts describe the same design.
The double D-ring
The choice of a double D-ring over a ratchet is deliberate rather than a cost decision. Grit is what kills a ratchet mechanism, and grit is exactly what an off-road helmet lives in.
🔵 A double D-ring has nothing for dust to get into. It is the correct closure for this helmet.
What this helmet does not have
No face shield means no Pinlock, no anti-fog insert and no tinted visor option — your goggles carry all of that, which is why goggle choice matters as much on this helmet as visor choice does on a road one.
🔵 Good goggles cost a meaningful fraction of what this helmet does. Budget for them rather than treating them as an afterthought.
Choosing the right size
🔵 A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The lining beds in over the first few hours of use, so a helmet that is perfect in the shop will usually be looser by the end of the first season. Start tighter than comfortable.
On an off-road helmet a fit that moves is a genuine performance problem rather than merely an annoyance.
Where it sits in MT's range
Within this model the price ladder is entirely paint. The Pure solids at 102 € and the two Ruler graphics at 110 € share the same shell, the same peak, the same closure and the same approval.
🔵 The cheapest Falcon S protects exactly as well as the most expensive.
When something wears out
Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. MT, like every manufacturer, recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition — and immediately after any real impact.
🔵 An off-road helmet that has been dropped in a paddock is not automatically finished; one that has taken a real impact is, whatever it looks like.
