Two numbers separate this element from the standard one in the same housing, and they do not move together. The aperture goes from 80 to 85 microns, a step of about six per cent. The rated flow goes from 5,050 to 15,000 l/m²/sec, a factor of three. Whatever produces the second figure, it is not the five microns in the first. That mismatch is worth understanding before ordering SM257S F1-85 for a Brivido 300R.
Key Features
- The racing weave of the P08 family: polyester, one layer, dry in use and never oiled
- 85 µm between the threads at a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow figure in the range
- Retention measured at 95.22 per cent against 100-micron particles
- Filtering area around double that of other performance elements, in the series pleat pattern
- Drops into the standard airbox where the paper panel sat, without cutting and without a remap
- Cleaned with compressed air and used again; two years of warranty from the date of purchase
Five microns, three times the rate
Mesh figures and flow figures answer different questions, so a small step in one can sit beside a large step in the other. An aperture describes what a particle has to get through. A flow rating describes how freely air crosses a given area of the material — a property of the whole weave: thread thickness, how tightly the cloth is set, how much of its surface is open at all. Sprint Filter changed those things to build the F1-85, and the 85 µm is a consequence of that change rather than the cause of the flow. Which is why the two elements cannot be interpolated, and why “only five microns coarser” is the wrong way to think about the swap.
What the swap is actually for
A rate that high is specified for engines that spend real time at wide throttle and high revs, where the intake asks for its peak again and again. A road-registered 300 does that rarely. The rest deserves saying plainly too: no drop-in panel makes a standard Brivido 300R noticeably stronger, and this one is no exception. What it offers is what the road element offers — an intake restriction that starts low and does not creep upward between services, on a part that is washed rather than replaced. The racing cloth simply begins from a different point on the trade between what is held back and what gets through.
Care and cleaning
Regeneration, not replacement. Compressed air on the clean face, directed outward, handles the normal interval and puts the resistance back where it began. If the load has gone damp and hardened, lukewarm water with a mild detergent lifts it, and the panel is rinsed until the water leaves clear. Drying is done by moving air alone, at room temperature; heat guns, radiators and flames finish the element rather than the job. SM257S F1-85 goes back in dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the Voge Brivido 300R, catalogued 2020 to 2026, and fitted in place of the standard paper panel. Three Voge machines share this racing element. The full list, with dates, is in the Fitment tab.
