DescriptionThe whole story▼
Developed for riders and teams competing under championship cost-cap regulations, the K-Tech TRDS-R Closed Cartridge Kit brings genuine British Superbike and Isle of Man TT pedigree to the Yamaha YZF-R1. Through-Rod Damping System technology and a compact, thermally efficient cartridge design deliver repeatable, race-winning fork performance — lap after lap, session after session.
Key Features
- Through-Rod Damping System (TRDS-R) technology enables exceptionally precise compression and rebound adjustment, giving riders and technicians a clear, intuitive understanding of chassis behaviour.
- The 'R' designation stands for Regulation — the kit is purpose-engineered to comply with the latest championship price-restriction rules, making top-level suspension technology accessible without unlimited sponsorship.
- Compact internal architecture improves heat dissipation throughout extended race stints, maintaining consistent damping characteristics from the first lap to the last.
- 16 compression clicks and 16 rebound clicks (suggested baseline) provide a wide, well-graduated adjustment range for circuit fine-tuning.
- 18 mm preload adjustment range allows spring rate calibration to suit rider weight and track demands.
- Supplied complete with a matched spring set — everything needed for a full fork upgrade in a single kit.
Design, Finish and Heritage
K-Tech Suspension has built its reputation at the sharp end of British and international road racing. The TRDS-R inherits that lineage directly: each cartridge is machined and assembled in the UK to tolerances that have been proven at BSB level and on the mountain course of the Isle of Man TT. The closed-cartridge architecture keeps the damping circuit isolated from fork oil contamination, preserving the integrity of the tune over the full race weekend. It is a piece of equipment that carries genuine competition history — not a track-day interpretation of race hardware, but the real article adapted for regulation compliance.
Performance on Road and Track
The Through-Rod design equalises oil volume displacement between compression and rebound strokes, eliminating the pressure imbalance that causes fade and inconsistent feel in conventional cartridges. For the Yamaha YZF-R1, a motorcycle already renowned for its inertial measurement unit-driven electronics, matching the mechanical suspension response to the chassis electronics is critical. The TRDS-R gives the technician the adjustment resolution to do exactly that, whether dialling in a qualifying set-up or finding a race-long compromise that protects rear tyre life through high-speed chicanes.
