DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP EX 001 A answers for the R1200R's exhaust valve servo after an aftermarket system is fitted.
Key Features
- BMW R1200R (2010–2018)
- Answers for the exhaust valve servo
- No warning on the instrument panel
- Plugs into BMW's own connector
- For a system with no exhaust valve
- Standard servo refits at any time
A Butterfly in the Silencer
Opened by a cable from a small motor as engine speed rises. It exists so the motorcycle passes a drive-by noise test and does nothing else.
Why It Is Monitored
The motor reports its position back, and the controller compares that with what it commanded. A missing servo produces a mismatch and a permanent warning.
Answered Properly
The eliminator returns the expected feedback, so the check passes and the display carries nothing.
The 2015 Redesign
BMW gave the naked boxer the liquid-cooled engine, a new frame and considerably better suspension. It went from being an afterthought to being one of the better road bikes in the range.
A Round Headlight
Deliberately traditional on a motorcycle that is anything but, which is a combination BMW has used repeatedly and usually pulls off.
Everything Is Visible
Without bodywork, a large standard silencer and its servo bracket are on display. It is one of the reasons naked bikes get exhaust changes so quickly.
One Connector
BMW's own plug with no adapters and nothing cut in the harness.
Keep the Servo
It refits with the standard exhaust and sells readily with it. Nothing in this conversion damages it.
Shaft Drive
Nothing to adjust and nothing to lubricate, which on a motorcycle used all year is worth considerably more than the weight it costs.
Noise Approval
The valve is part of how the bike meets its limit and removing it changes the legal position.
A Boxer With Nothing Covering It
The cylinders stick out into the airflow and into the rider's line of sight, which is most of the appeal. It also means every component bolted near them is on display and gets judged accordingly.
