A Hundred and Ninety-Eight Kilograms
Wet, which is manageable for almost anybody and part of why the T100 sells to riders returning after decades away.
Liquid Cooled, Discreetly
Triumph hid the radiator and the plumbing well enough that most people do not notice. It is one of the better pieces of packaging in the range.
A Purge Valve at the Other End
It meters the stored vapour into the inlet tract when conditions allow. It is the electrically monitored half and the reason a canister cannot simply be unbolted.
Hard Starting, No Obvious Cause
The classic symptom, and the last thing anybody suspects. Owners chase it through plugs, batteries and fuelling before somebody mentions the canister.
Invisible Until It Fails
Owners generally learn that their motorcycle has a canister at the moment it stops working, which is not the ideal introduction to a component.
Why the Bed Stops Working
Activated charcoal holds vapour in its pores until they are full, and it releases that vapour when the engine draws on it. Liquid fuel fills the pores permanently, which is why a single careless fill can finish a canister that had years left in it.
The Charcoal Is Not Replaceable
Triumph supplies the vessel as a sealed assembly, so a saturated bed means a new canister rather than a service. That cost is one of the practical arguments owners make for removing it entirely.
Why Removal Is So Common
Because the assembly occupies the most contested space on the motorcycle, has a limited life, cannot be serviced and produces symptoms that are difficult to diagnose. Every one of those is a reason on its own and together they are compelling.
A Vessel That Cannot Be Opened
Triumph supplies the canister sealed, so a saturated bed means buying a new one. That economics is why so few owners replace one twice.
