DescriptionThe whole story▼

The 2024 MT-09 sharpened almost everything about how the bike is ridden, and it is ridden with the left hand more than the spec sheet suggests. Junctions, filtering, the slow crawl out of a car park: the clutch hand does the unglamorous work, and it does it better with a lever it can actually reach.

Key Features

  • Reach adjustable through 35 positions, set by hand
  • Central adjuster wheel, reachable from the riding position
  • Folding blade that swings clear instead of snapping off
  • Engineered break point inside the two-finger zone
  • Phosphated pivot seat, free of play from new
  • Road legal in Germany under ABE No. KBA 91203

Build

The blade is cut from solid aluminium and anodised black, with the pivot bore phosphated before assembly. That treated seat is why the lever still returns crisply after a wet commuting winter rather than going slack in its mount. The milled Gilles face on top gives a gloved hand something to locate against.

Where the Bite Point Sits

Engagement close to the grip suits quick, deliberate clutch work; further out suits long, relaxed miles. On the MT-09 most riders want the former, and the central wheel takes you there in single steps. Set it with the engine running and the bike in gear — on the stand you are guessing, because the point you feel there is not the point you get moving.

Two Fingers Instead of Four

Bringing the blade in shortens the whole motion of the hand. Riders usually notice the difference in the forearm rather than the fingers, because the forearm is what a full-span pull actually loads. Once two-finger operation becomes comfortable, the other two stay wrapped around the bar where they belong.

Road Approval

Road legal in Germany under ABE No. KBA 91203, downloadable from this page. No entry in the documents and no inspection are required; carry the printout. The break point in the blade is part of the approval and must stay intact.

Scope of Delivery

One black clutch lever for the MT-09. The clutch switch actuator is not included — it transfers from the original lever, so keep the old one to hand until the swap is finished and the starter interlock has been checked.
