DescriptionThe whole story▼

A clutch lever on a superbike spends most of its life doing one thing well: releasing cleanly off the line. The FXCL-28 is the clutch half of the Gilles FXL range for the S1000RR, machined from solid aluminium, hinged so it folds rather than breaks, and adjustable through 35 positions so the bite point falls where your fingers already are instead of where you have to reach for it.

Key Features

  • 35-position reach adjustment via a central wheel
  • Folding blade, pivots away under impact
  • Engineered break point in the two-finger zone
  • Phosphated bearing for consistent lever feel
  • Black anodised solid aluminium
  • ABE No. KBA 91203 for German road use

Material and Bearing

Everything about the feel of a clutch lever comes down to the pivot. Gilles cuts the bore and then phosphates it, so the blade moves on a treated surface instead of on bare anodising that wears into a loose fit. The result is a lever that still returns crisply after a season of use, which matters more on the clutch side than the brake side because the hand works it far more often.

Setting the Bite Point

Riders who launch the bike hard want the engagement to happen close to the grip, where the hand has the most control and the least travel. Riders doing road miles usually want the opposite. The adjuster wheel covers both without tools, and because the detents are shallow and numerous you can move a single step at a time rather than jumping past the setting you wanted. Set it with the engine running and the bike in gear, not on the stand.

Fitment and Installation

Fits the BMW S1000RR, type codes K10 and 2R10, model years 2015 to 2018. Installation is straightforward, with one thing to plan for: the clutch switch actuation has to be carried over from the original lever. Set aside a few minutes for that transfer, and check that the switch operates before the bike moves, because on this model the engine will not start in gear without it.

Road Approval

Approved for German public roads under ABE No. KBA 91203. The break point built into the blade forms part of that approval and must not be altered.

Scope of Delivery

One clutch lever in black anodised aluminium. Note that the clutch switch actuator is not part of the delivery: it is carried over from the original lever during fitting, which is why the old lever should not be discarded until the swap is finished and the starter interlock has been checked. The ABE is downloadable here and belongs with the vehicle papers in printed form.
