DescriptionThe whole story▼
Four decibels, and Akrapovic puts a number on it: 104.8 dB with this damper installed. Of the eight noise dampers in this catalogue, it is the only one for which the manufacturer publishes a measured result rather than simply stating that the level comes down.
Key Features
- Reduces the reading by 4 dB, to 104.8 dB
- Fits both the Evolution Line and the Racing Line (Titanium)
- Covers four BMW model names across eight model years
- An optional part — the systems work without it
- The only Akrapovic noise damper here with a published figure
What Four Decibels Buys
Circuits set their static limits independently. 105 dB is a common threshold in Germany and across much of Europe, and an Evolution Line without this damper sits above it. With the damper the reading is 104.8.
Two tenths of a decibel is not much margin, and a meter on a warm day may read differently from one on a cold morning. But it is the difference between an argument at the gate and a session on the circuit.
Two Systems, One Damper
Akrapovic names the Evolution Line (Titanium) and the Racing Line (Titanium) for the S 1000 RR. Whichever of the two is on the motorcycle, this is the damper.
Worth knowing when specifying: the systems Akrapovic names in its text are the base part numbers, and this shop stocks the revised versions of both. The systems are the same design under a newer number, and the damper belongs to them — but if the exhaust on your bike came from somewhere else, confirm it before ordering.
Four Model Names
The S 1000 RR superbike, the homologation-special M 1000 RR, and the S 1000 R and M 1000 R roadsters built around the same engine. BMW keeps the exhaust outlet common across the range, so one damper serves all of them from 2019.
Optional Means Optional
Both systems are complete and usable without this part. Nothing is missing from the box; the damper exists because some venues ask for a lower reading than the exhaust produces as delivered.
A rider who only uses their machine on the road, or at circuits with no static limit, has no reason to fit one.
Buy It Before You Need It
The practical point. A damper is a small item that no paddock trader stocks, and a rider turned away at scrutineering has already paid the entry and made the journey.
Check the regulations for the meetings you plan to enter, and order in advance rather than hoping.
It Costs Some Flow
Any restriction in the outlet does. Akrapovic publishes no power figure for the damper, so none is quoted here — but a system that is quieter is also breathing less freely, and that is the exchange every noise regulation asks for.
Road Approval
Not applicable in the usual sense. This addresses circuit noise limits rather than road legality, and the systems it fits are competition exhausts without type approval.
