DescriptionThe whole story▼
Rider training courses love slow exercises: tight circles, figure eights and walking-pace slaloms between cones. On an XSR700 the light chassis and smooth twin make them manageable, but the precision has to come from the rider, and almost all of it from the left hand. Accossato's ESY688 is machined from aluminium for the XSR700 and listed for 2016 to 2020 and again for 2022. It fits the original clutch mounting, and its reach can be adjusted so the friction zone lies where your fingers work most finely.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha XSR700, listed 2016 to 2020 and 2022
- Takes the place of the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable span for fine friction-zone work
- Short blade in blue, silver, gold, orange and green
- Standard length about 138 mm, long blade in four colours
- CNC-machined, anodised aluminium; black hub
- Fixed blade with no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
The ESY688 is machined from aluminium and anodised in two tones. The hub, which sits next to the switch cluster and holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, is always black; only the blade takes a colour. On the XSR700, where the handlebar area is kept simple, that keeps things calm even with a bright blade. There is no folding joint: the lever is one fixed piece, which gives the clutch a clear, repeatable feel with no hinge adding play at the tip.
Cones, Circles and the Friction Point
Slow riding exercises all rely on the same technique: a steady throttle, a light touch of rear brake and the clutch held in the friction zone, slipping just enough to keep the bike moving. The hand has to hold that zone for a long time without tiring, and it must be able to make very small corrections. Set the ESY688 so that the clutch starts to bite with your fingers already slightly curled; from there, a tiny movement changes the drive. Many instructors teach this with two fingers on the lever, and the short blade suits that grip. Practise in an empty car park before the training day, so that during the exercises you can concentrate on your line and your eyes, not on finding the lever. The same control helps later in real life, on a crowded campsite or in a narrow side street with your XSR700.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the XSR 700, Accossato's list gives the ESY688 for 2016 to 2020 and, as a separate entry, for 2022; the 2021 model year does not appear. If your bike is a 2021, please compare the original lever with the product photos before ordering. The lever replaces the stock one at the original clutch mounting. On the brake side, Accossato's EDF016 is listed for the XSR700 from 2016 through 2022 without a gap.
Road Approval
The ESY688 is sold for track use: a German ABE is not documented for it.
