DescriptionThe whole story▼

The MT-10 is usually described by its engine, the crossplane four derived from the R1, but many owners put it to a use the spec sheet hardly hints at: weekends away. Yamaha even offered a Tourer Edition, which Accossato lists alongside the standard bike. With bags on board, a naked litre bike has more mass to stop, and a brake lever that sits well in the hand matters more. The Accossato EDF016 replaces the original brake lever of the 2016 to 2021 MT-10 with a CNC-machined aluminium lever and adjustable reach.

Key Features

  • Front brake lever for the MT-10, 2016 to 2021, including the Tourer Edition
  • Reach to the grip adjustable
  • Long blade for four fingers in blue, gold, green or orange
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm in all seven colours
  • Aluminium, CNC-machined, anodised with a black hub
  • Fixed, one-piece blade
  • Mounts on the original master cylinder

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato cuts the EDF016 from aluminium with CNC tools and anodises it in two colours, a black hub and a blade in the shade you choose. The machined surfaces have crisp, even edges, and the section of the blade is uniform from pivot to tip. Anodising gives the lever a finish that is part of the metal, so a luggage strap or the buckle of a tank bag can rub against it without peeling anything off. The design is rigid, with no folding joint, and the brake therefore feels the same whether the bike is loaded or empty.

Loaded for a Weekend

Soft bags over the pillion seat, a tank bag, perhaps a small rack: packed like that, the MT-10 carries noticeably more weight into every braking zone. Its brakes are well up to the job, but the way you use them changes. Stops should begin a little earlier and build more gradually, because the extra mass takes longer to bring down from speed and the bike pitches forward in a different way. That calls for smooth, progressive pressure at the lever, and smoothness comes more easily when the whole hand can work without strain. For touring on the MT-10, the long blade deserves a look. It gives four fingers room and adds leverage at the tip, which reduces the effort needed for a firm stop at the end of a long day. Set the reach while wearing the gloves you tour in, since they are often thicker than your summer pair. Riders who keep the MT-10 for shorter, faster outings can stay with the standard blade, whose shape comes closest to the original.

Fitment and Compatibility

The EDF016 is listed for the MT-10 from 2016 to 2021, the bike as it was built before the 2022 update, and Accossato names the MT-10 Tourer Edition of 2017 to 2019 separately. It fits on the original master cylinder. On the clutch side, Accossato lists the ESV004 for the same MT-10 years, so both levers can be ordered in one colour. The MT-10 SP has an entry of its own on Accossato's list.

Road Approval

As no German ABE is documented, this brake lever is sold for use on the track.
