By Sprint Filter's own account, it is the most used air filter in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock. That sentence needs handling carefully, because it is a manufacturer's statement about its own products and not an independent measurement. The wrong responses are to quote it as proof and to wave it away as marketing. For an F4 of 2013 to 2015 it is worth doing the third thing instead, which is taking it apart to see what it can and cannot support.
Key Features
- Carbon fibre framed element built to Sprint Filter's WorldSBK specification
- Racing polyester with an 85 µm aperture and a rated flow of 15,000 l/m²/sec
- 95.22 per cent of 100-micron particles held back under measurement
- Woven and dry rather than pressed from pulp — washed and reused, not discarded
- Direct fit in the standard airbox, with no modification and no mapping change
- Specified for the life of the motorcycle, guaranteed two years from purchase
What a supply claim can carry
Read strictly, the statement is about volume: more machines in those paddocks run this brand than any other. Volume is not the same as superiority, and a claim made by the seller carries the weight of a claim made by the seller. Where it does mean something is in what a paddock is like as a customer. Teams reorder what has not caused them trouble and drop what has, season after season, with no loyalty involved. A supplier that keeps that business over years has cleared a low bar for reliability many times, which is a modest conclusion and the honest one.
What does not travel from a grid to a road bike
A racing motorcycle is prepared before every session and inspected after it. Its air is a swept circuit rather than a February commute, and its airbox is opened as a matter of routine. The coarser racing weave is specified inside that regime. None of it transfers to a road-registered F4 by association, and neither does anything about performance: an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably faster, whoever else happens to be running one. What transfers is the construction standard, which is a narrower claim and one you can actually check by handling the part.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air is the whole of the normal service. Aim it at the clean face of R189S F1-85-SBK and work outward, so the load leaves by the route it came in on rather than being pressed further in. When the weave still looks charged after that, wash it in warm water with a mild washing-up detergent and rinse until nothing more comes away. Drying takes patience and moving air and nothing else — no heat gun, no radiator, no naked flame, because heat destroys polyester before it dries it. Refit dry, with no dressing of any kind. The maintenance sheet is under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the airbox of the MV Agusta F4 1000 of 2013 to 2015. Eight machines appear on the fitment list: the F4R and F4RR alongside it, the F4RC and F4RC LH running to 2026, and the Brutale Oro, Brutale RR and Rush.
