This line of the catalogue covers three motorcycles: the 890 Duke, its learner-legal L sibling and the R. For the standard element that grouping is harmless, because the standard medium is a reasonable answer for all three. For a racing weave it is not. A fitment list states that a part goes in; it does not state that a part belongs there, and the gap between those two claims is at its widest right here, where one racing element code is offered to a machine held at a learner power ceiling.
Key Features
- Sprint Filter's racing medium: dry polyester, 85 µm, 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Offered to every version on this row without distinction: one code, three machines
- Sprint Filter's own comparison puts it at 95.22 % on 100-micron particles
- Asks about two and a third times what the standard P08 asks for this housing
- Oil-free and washable, fitted in the series airbox without modification
- A two-year warranty runs from the date of purchase
Fitment is not endorsement
A parts catalogue answers a mechanical question: does the element seal in that housing over those model years. It has no view on whether the choice is sensible, and it cannot have one, because the sensible answer depends on how the motorcycle is used rather than on how it is built. Reading a fitment entry as a recommendation is the commonest mistake made in this part of a shop, and on a row that spans a restricted machine and the sharpest version of the same model it produces the wrong purchase very efficiently.
Where it does belong
By Sprint Filter's own account its media are the most widely used in MotoGP, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock. That is a statement about where the company's products turn up, made by the company, and not a measurement of what any one of them does in a road airbox. The honest reading is narrow: this weave was drawn for competition use, with the inspection routine that goes with it. On the road, none of the three versions gets quicker for having one fitted, and the restricted variant answers to a statutory ceiling rather than to anything upstream of the throttle.
Care and cleaning
Service is dry and quick. Air enters at the clean face and leaves through the dirty one, taking the load out by the route it came in, which on this open a weave is usually all that is needed. When it is not, lukewarm water with a mild detergent finishes the job, rinsed until nothing further comes away. The PM175S F1-85 then dries in open air alone, well clear of heat and flame, and goes back only when dry throughout. The maintenance sheet for this element sits with the Downloads on this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the 890 in every version KTM lists here, model years 2020 to 2026, seated in the unaltered airbox in place of the original panel. This code appears against five machines in all, spread over three engine sizes and eight model years. Order by code and by year rather than by the name on the tank; the Fitment tab carries the whole list.
