A New Engine Under an Old Name
BMW replaced the 798 cc twin with an 853 cc unit and a 270 degree crank for this generation. The character changed completely and the model designation did not.
The Road-Biased One
Cast wheels, a nineteen inch front and a lower seat. The F750GS is the version bought by riders whose gravel ambitions are modest and honest about it.
Behind the Engine
Carbon canister, purge valve, bracket and three lines, all sharing space with the shock and the linkage. On a mid-size bike that area was never generous.
A Bed With a Finite Life
Carbon absorbs vapour until it cannot, and nothing in the service schedule replaces it. On a high-mileage bike the canister is often long past useful.
Fuel in the Carbon
Filling past the nozzle click soaks the bed permanently. Hard starting and an uneven idle follow, and the cause is almost never traced back to a petrol station.
Equalising Pressure
Every litre burnt has to be replaced by air entering the tank. The supplied fitting does that without letting anything back the other way.
Answering the Check
The expected electrical load is presented, so the test passes and the display carries nothing at the next ignition cycle.
Two Hundred and Twenty-Four Kilograms
Wet, which is not light for the class and is carried low enough that the bike disguises it well. Anything removed from high behind the engine helps rather than hurts.
Back to Standard in an Evening
The refit takes about as long as the removal did, and no replacement parts are needed to do it.
A Competition Modification
In the markets that mandate evaporative control, this is a change for a machine that is no longer used on public roads.
Restricted Without Being Diminished
The 750 designation covers a detuned version of the same 853 cc engine, which keeps it within a restricted licence category. Riders who move up later often find the difference smaller than the badge suggests, because the chassis was never the limiting factor.
Everything on the Vapour Side
Tank line, canister, purge line and the valve at the end of it. The kit accounts for all four.
