DescriptionThe whole story▼

BMW presented the R nineT in 2013 to mark ninety years of its motorcycles, and the boxer roadster soon became a favourite of the custom scene. Its owners like to gather at cafés and bike meets, where machines stand in a row with their rear wheels against the kerb. Pushing a heavy boxer backwards into such a space, with the rider walking beside it, is exactly where many tip-overs happen. For the R nineT of 2013 to 2016, Accossato lists the PF048: two black front axle sliders.

Key Features

  • Front axle sliders for the BMW R nineT, 2013 to 2016
  • Accossato front fork protection, part number PF048
  • Two protectors, one for each side
  • Aluminium and plastic, black finish
  • Spacers, screws and the remaining mounting parts in the kit (Accossato)
  • Designed to take the first contact in a tip-over
  • No German ABE on record; for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

The PF048 consists of two black protectors that Accossato makes from aluminium and plastic. Spacers, screws and every other part the manufacturer considers necessary for mounting come in the same box. On a bike whose owners often spend hours on the details, the sliders have a very down-to-earth role: if the R nineT falls over, they should be the first thing at the front to touch the ground, and that may reduce the damage to the fork and the axle area. After a heavy knock, they are replaced.

Backing Into the Kerb

Parking at a busy café often means rolling the bike backwards into a gap between other motorcycles. With the R nineT that means moving a heavy machine on foot, with only the front brake to control it. Stand on the left, hold both grips and let the bike lean slightly towards you. Look behind before you move: a kerb, a pothole or a slope can stop the rear wheel suddenly, and the bike can topple. Move slowly, in small steps. Once the rear tyre touches the kerb, fold out the side stand before letting go. If the ground falls away towards the road, park nose uphill and leave it in first gear. Should it go over anyway, check the sliders, the levers, the footrest on that side and the cylinder head cover, which on a boxer is often among the first parts to touch.

Fitment and Compatibility

The R 1200 nineT built from 2013 to 2016 is the entry on Accossato's list for this pair. Our shop links the identical sliders to the R nineT Scrambler, the R 1200 GS and the R 1250 GS as well. Accossato's range holds no further protection part for this roadster. If your R nineT was built after 2016, please ask us before ordering, as the list stops at that year.

Road Approval

Neither a German ABE nor any other approval document for the PF048 has been made available to us. We therefore sell the sliders for racing and track use.

Scope of Delivery

Two black PF048 front axle sliders and, according to Accossato, the spacers, screws and further parts for mounting.
