DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Ducati Scrambler 1100 is often the bike that gets ridden when others stay in the garage: to work, into town, through the first cold weeks of autumn. That kind of use is hard on brake discs. For the front wheel Accossato lists the DKS053, a floating disc with a black carrier and a 5.5 mm friction ring, fixed through five holes of 8.5 mm on a 90 mm hole circle. It is listed for the Scrambler 1100 from 2018 to 2023 and, according to Accossato, is interchangeable with the original discs.

Construction and Material Quality
The DKS053 has a 320 mm friction ring held by rivets to a black carrier, which fixes to the wheel at five points on a 90 mm circle around a 72 mm centre. The ring is 5.5 mm thick and can float slightly on its rivets. Accossato says its discs are developed with knowledge gained in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and that suitable materials and exact play between carrier and ring give them an effective bite. The minimum working thickness is printed on the disc for later checks.
Rain, Road Salt and Short Trips
Everyday riding in poor weather brings three enemies for brake discs. Water carries grit from the road onto the ring, and the pads grind it in, which shows up as fine grooves. In winter, road salt speeds up corrosion, especially on a bike that is parked wet. And short trips never let the discs warm up and dry out properly, so a film of rust forms overnight and the pads have to wear through it each morning.
A few habits help the Scrambler 1100. Rinse the wheels with fresh water after riding on salted roads, keeping the jet gentle near the calipers, and let the bike dry before covering it. Keep lubricants and cleaning products away from the discs; if some reach them, clean the discs with brake cleaner and check whether the pads have soaked anything up. In the wet, brake early and smoothly, since the first touch of the lever wipes water off the ring before the pads bite fully. And inspect both discs more often than a fair-weather rider would, because grooves and corrosion build up faster. When a ring is scored or approaching the printed minimum, replace both front discs together.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DKS053 for the Ducati Scrambler 1100 of 2018 to 2023; the 1100 Pro, the Dark Pro and the Tribute Pro are covered as well. The Scrambler 1100 uses two front discs and the price is for one, so plan to order two. Accossato's fixed DK008 is listed for the rear wheel.
Road Approval
A German ABE or type approval has not been documented for the DKS053, which is intended for use on closed circuits and in racing.
