DescriptionThe whole story▼

An early BMW F 800 R from 2009 is no longer a young motorcycle, yet many of these parallel-twin roadsters are still in daily use. Keeping one safe means renewing the parts that wear, and the front discs are among them. Accossato's DK007 is one option for that job, a fixed steel disc for the front that the company calls interchangeable with the original; it is listed for the F 800 R from 2009 to 2020.

Key Features

  • Fixed steel front disc for the BMW F 800 R, 2009 to 2020
  • 320 mm outer diameter, 181 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thick
  • One piece, interchangeable with the original equipment
  • Minimum thickness printed on the disc
  • Smaller DK006 disc also listed for 2015 to 2019
  • Price per disc; two on the F 800 R's front wheel
  • No German ABE documented, for track use

Construction and Material Quality

A fixed disc such as the DK007 is simply one piece of steel. It measures 320 mm in diameter and 5 mm in thickness, and its inner diameter is 181 mm. Accossato claims it is interchangeable with the original part and adds that its racing experience guided both the material and the design.

Keeping an Early F 800 R Going

On a bike that has seen more than a decade of use, age matters as much as distance. A disc can have enough thickness left and still be due: pitted by winters in an unheated garage, out of true after years of small knocks, or marked by grooves from a set of pads that ran too long. Look closely at the discs of an older F 800 R. Rust on the edges and between the bolt holes is common and mostly cosmetic, but pitting on the pad track, a heavy lip at the outer edge and cracks of any kind are reasons for replacement. When you do replace them, take the chance to renew the pads and the brake fluid, and check the brake hoses for cracks and swelling. Old parts seldom wear out on their own. Accossato points out that a worn disc may break under extreme stress, which is a good reason not to squeeze the last bit of life out of an old one.

Fitment and Compatibility

The F 800 R is listed for the DK007 across 2009 to 2020. For the 2015 to 2019 bikes Accossato also lists a smaller disc, the DK006, so owners of those years should measure the disc on their bike before ordering; this one is 320 mm across. The F 800 R carries two front discs, and each order is for one.

Road Approval

The DK007 comes without a documented German ABE or type approval and is therefore a part for circuit use.
