DescriptionThe whole story▼
Some jumps land straight into a corner. On a Suzuki RM-Z450, flying off a tabletop that ends just before a tight right-hander, the rider has a fraction of a second between the wheels touching down and the point where the bike must be slowed hard. The front brake has to come on almost as soon as the suspension has absorbed the landing, with the chassis barely settled. For that moment Accossato offers the B8262, a replacement lever for the RM-Z450 from 2005 to 2020. It is milled from Ergal 7075, its blade can fold on a joint, and it is kept short so that three fingers cover it.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Suzuki RM-Z450, model years 2005 to 2020
- Takes over from the stock lever on the original master cylinder
- Short blade designed for three fingers
- Anti-break joint: the blade can fold forward rather than snap
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, gold or green, base in a dark finish
- One lever supplied
- No German ABE documented; motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The B8262 begins as a solid block of Ergal 7075. Accossato chose this aluminium alloy for its high strength, which makes it possible to build a lever that is light and reliable as well as tough, and the machining is done on CNC equipment at Accossato's Italian works. The finished part has a dark base, fitted to the pivot of the RM-Z450's master cylinder, and a separate blade in black, blue, gold or green. A joint links the two and lets the blade fold. On the brake side the blade is the short type, meant for three fingers rather than the whole hand.
Landing Into a Braking Zone
Braking straight after a landing is one of the more delicate jobs on a motocross track, and on a big four-stroke it arrives quickly. The RM-Z450 leaves the face of a jump with plenty of speed, so the braking zone that follows is short for the pace. Riders who handle it well wait until both wheels are on the ground and the fork has soaked up the impact, then squeeze the front brake progressively, rather than grabbing it in the air or the instant the front tyre touches. Their fingers are already resting on the blade before the landing, ready to add pressure in a smooth ramp.
Mistakes here tend to take one of two forms: a front wheel that locks while the fork is compressed, or a bike that arrives too fast and runs out of room. Both can end with the RM-Z450 on the ground, sometimes sliding, and the brake lever scraping across a hard landing area. The folding joint on the B8262 lets the blade swing forward instead of breaking off at the tip, which improves the odds that you can pick the bike up and rejoin with a working front brake. Accossato does not claim it will survive every crash, and neither do we, but at race pace a usable lever makes itself felt by the very next corner.
Fitment and Compatibility
The RM-Z450 is covered from 2005 to 2020 in Accossato's list for the B8262, which replaces the original lever at the stock front brake master cylinder. The C7220 folding clutch lever is listed for the same model years. On the clutch side the choice is black, gold or green; blue appears only on the B8262.
Road Approval
The B8262 has no documented German ABE. It is offered for motocross and off-road competition, which is what the RM-Z450 is built for.
