DescriptionThe whole story▼

Triumph's Speed Twin, introduced for 2019, put the 1200 twin from the Thruxton into a modern classic roadster with an upright riding position. It suits narrow, twisting roads that are rarely resurfaced, and on those roads the brake hand has a particular job: holding a steady pressure while the bars move over bumps. The EDF099 is Accossato's CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the Speed Twin 1200 of 2019 and 2020, fitted to the original master cylinder and adjustable for reach.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Triumph Speed Twin 1200, 2019 and 2020
  • Mounts on the original front master cylinder
  • Adjustable distance from blade to grip
  • Machined from aluminium on CNC machines, then anodised
  • Black hub; blade in black, silver, gold, blue, green, orange or red
  • Standard length approximately 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
  • Fixed lever in one piece, no folding joint

Construction and Material Quality

The EDF099 is milled from aluminium and anodised, which gives it a hard, coloured surface that is part of the metal itself. The hub is black on every version and contains the pivot and the reach adjuster; the blade takes the colour. On a modern classic like the Speed Twin, silver and black are the understated options, gold can suit a bike with brushed or bronze-toned details, and the brighter colours make the lever a deliberate accent. Whatever the finish, the blade is a single rigid piece without a hinge.

Steady Pressure on Broken Tarmac

On a smooth road, braking is a matter of squeezing and releasing. On a patched, rippled back road it is more complicated, because every bump moves the handlebar and, with it, your hand. If the hand moves relative to the lever, the pressure on the blade changes with each bump and the front brake pulses on and off without you intending it. Part of the answer is technique: keep your arms relaxed so the bars can move without dragging your upper body with them, and brake a little earlier and more gently where the surface is poor. The other part is set-up. When the EDF099 is adjusted so that the blade sits under the middle section of your fingers, they hold it in a secure, curled position rather than at their tips, and small movements of the bar alter the pressure less. The Speed Twin 1200 helps here with its upright stance: little weight rests on the wrists, so the hands are free to follow the lever instead of holding up the rider.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF099 for the Speed Twin 1200 in the 2019 and 2020 model years, where it replaces the stock blade on the original master cylinder. The clutch lever Accossato lists for the same bike and years is the EST333P, so both sides of the bar can be finished in one colour.

Road Approval

There is no German ABE on file for the EDF099; it is supplied for use on closed circuits.

Scope of Delivery
