DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki described the Z1000 of 2014 onwards with the Japanese word Sugomi, the intense presence of something ready to pounce, and the crouched, angular styling of that bike made the idea visible. On a naked machine like the Z1000, every part of the cockpit is on show, from the saddle and from the pavement, and the levers are among the most prominent parts of all. Accossato's EDF088 takes that into account: a machined aluminium brake lever for the Z1000, listed from 2007 to 2020 and again for 2022 to 2024, with adjustable reach and seven blade colours.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Kawasaki Z1000, 2007 to 2020 and 2022 to 2024
- Seven blade colours on a black anodised hub
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Standard length approximately 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Machined from aluminium on CNC equipment
- Fixed one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF088 is cut from aluminium on CNC machines, and on a naked bike you can see the result: clean edges, a uniform section and a surface without casting marks. Anodising then colours the lever in two tones, black for the hub that holds the pivot and the adjuster, and your chosen colour for the blade. The anodised layer is part of the aluminium rather than a coat on top, so the colour does not chip at the edges. The blade is fixed, with no hinge anywhere along its length.
Part of the Look
On the Z1000 the styling does not stop at the bodywork. The lever sits right in the rider's field of view, and from the front of the bike it is one of the first things you notice. That makes the colour more than a detail. On a Z1000 in Kawasaki green, a green blade continues the bodywork into the cockpit. On a black or grey bike, orange, gold or red add a single sharp accent, while black keeps the front end dark and uncluttered. Silver works on bikes with polished or bare-metal parts. A useful rule is to repeat the colour at least once elsewhere, on a wheel stripe, a detail of the frame or the clutch lever, so that it looks planned. Before ordering, note which lengths each colour comes in: black and red are standard only, silver standard or short, and the other four colours are made in all three lengths.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF088 for the Z1000 from 2007 to 2020, with entries for 2007 to 2016 and 2007 to 2020, and again for 2022 to 2024. That span includes the redesigned Z1000 of 2010 and the Sugomi generation from 2014; the first Z1000 of 2003 to 2006 is not on the brake-lever list. For the left hand, the ESK828 clutch lever covers the Z1000 from 2003 to 2020 and from 2022 to 2024.
Road Approval
The paperwork for the EDF088 includes no German ABE, and so the lever is offered for track riding.
