A paper element arrives with a kilometre figure attached, because it has to be bought again and somebody has to know when. A washable one does not. Neither the motorcycle's service schedule nor the filter's own data will say when the CM196P14 needs attention, since the answer depends on the air it has been breathing rather than on distance covered. That reads like a gap and is really a handover: the interval becomes the owner's to set, and it gets set by looking instead of by counting.
Key Features
- Dry non-woven medium at 14 µm, the finest listed for this airbox
- Rated flow 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard 80 µm weave
- Around double the filtering surface of other performance elements, in the series housing
- Never oiled — cleaned with compressed air and refitted dry
- Fits the standard airbox unaltered; no ducting changes and no remap
- Reusable for the life of the motorcycle, with two years of warranty
Writing the interval yourself
Take the panel out at the first two services, look at it under a light and note the distance between the two. Those readings are worth more than any published figure, because they already contain the dust, the traffic and the weather of the roads actually being ridden. After that the rhythm is fixed, and keeping to it costs a few minutes: the element goes back in when it is clean, rather than being replaced when a table says its time is up.
Two numbers, and a third that does not exist
Sprint Filter gives this medium 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec. For the woven media it also publishes a retention percentage measured on 100-micron particles; for the non-woven there is no such figure. That is worth knowing before setting them side by side, because a micron rating describes a material while a percentage describes a result, and the two are not the same kind of statement. What holds in both directions is the trade — more held back, less passed through — and the fact that a drop-in element of any weave does not make a standard machine noticeably stronger.
Care and cleaning
All of it dry. Compressed air on the clean side and outwards, so the load leaves the way it entered; a mat-type medium gives it up more slowly than a weave, so work steadily. Lukewarm water with a mild detergent handles anything greasy, then rinse until clear. Then it air-dries, unhurried and without warmth of any kind, before going back in untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 across 2018 to 2026. The same element is listed for the Continental GT 650 over the identical years and for the Bear 650 of 2025 and 2026 — three machines on this housing. Check your year in the Fitment tab.
