Sprint Filter publishes a retention percentage for its woven media: 93.13 per cent of 100-micron particles for the standard cloth, 95.22 for the racing one. For this nonwoven it publishes none. Anyone lining the three media up as a table therefore finds a column half empty, and filling the gap by inference is a good way to buy the wrong one. What is published for the P14 is complete in its own terms — 14 microns of filtration, 1,800 litres per square metre per second of flow — and it is enough to decide with.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven medium specified at 14 microns and 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Filtration rating and flow rate are the published figures; no retention percentage exists
- Free of oil for its whole life, so nothing can be carried forward into the intake
- Sits in the unmodified 2024-on airbox where the paper panel was; no remap required
- Cleaned and refitted rather than renewed at each service interval
- Covered for two years from the date it is bought
Comparing across a gap in the data
The percentages that do exist come from one particular test, against 100-micron particles, and they were measured on woven cloth. Carrying such a number sideways onto a nonwoven would be inventing it, and Sprint Filter does not. That leaves two figures to reason from, which is not a hardship: a filtration rating tells you what size the medium is built to arrest and a flow rate tells you what it costs to arrest it. Between 80 microns at 5,050 and 14 microns at 1,800 the direction of both is unambiguous, and the direction is the part a buyer actually needs.
The part that needs no figures at all
Some of what this element offers is not a number. It is dry, so how it behaves does not depend on who last oiled it or how heavily. It is washed rather than replaced, so an inspection costs nothing and can be as frequent as the riding deserves. And it is honest about its limits: no drop-in element makes a standard 390 Duke quicker, and on a single homologated within the A2 category the ceiling belongs to the engine and its approval. The dependable gain is an intake restriction that starts low and is brought back there with an air line.
Care and cleaning
Most services are a compressor and a few minutes. Hold the jet against the clean face of the PM293P14, work it steadily across, and the load leaves by the side that stopped it. When something stickier than dust has collected, lukewarm water and a mild detergent take care of it, with rinsing continued until nothing further comes out of the medium. Drying is done in open moving air only, at a distance from heaters and flame, and refitting waits until it is dry through. The Downloads tab carries the illustrated sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the KTM 390 Duke built from 2024 to 2026. This code covers seven entries across the current KTM and Husqvarna single-cylinder range, all of them named in the Fitment tab. An older Sprint Filter listing for the 390 Duke also extends into these model years, so check the build year and the housing rather than ordering on the model name.
