For a great many riders the CB300R is not one of the bikes in the garage, it is the bike. It sits at the top of this family, it is what a restricted licence allows for the first couple of years, and it therefore has to cover the commute, the Sunday ride, the first proper tour and whatever else the season produces. Four jobs on one air filter, and each of them loads it in a different way: city air is fine and relentless, a gravel detour is coarse and sudden, a wet fortnight is neither. That is worth understanding before choosing a medium, because filter media are a trade rather than a ranking, and the Sprint Filter P08 SM219S is the one that sits deliberately in the middle of the line.
Key Features
- Cleaned and refitted season after season, warranted two years from purchase
- The P08 medium works at 80 microns, airflow figure 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Its threads start at ø 22 microns, woven to a calibrated aperture, not pressed into pulp
- Dry throughout — no oil on it, so nothing travels to the sensor or throttle body
- Filtering surface about twice what other performance elements provide
- Standard airbox, direct swap: no modification, no remap, nothing to declare
Finer is not better, it is different
Sprint Filter builds the same element in several media, and the numbers make the trade plain. The P08 filters at 80 microns and flows 5,050 l/m²/sec. The P14 goes down to 14 microns but flows 1,800. The T12 reaches 7 microns at 560. The P037 sits at 37 microns, is water repellent, and flows 4,500. Every step towards finer filtration buys retention and spends airflow, and a finer medium also loads sooner because it is catching more. None of them is the best one. For a machine that spends most of its year on sealed roads with occasional forays onto worse, the P08 is the considered middle of that line rather than a compromise away from it.
Four duty cycles, one element
The advantage of a washable filter on a bike asked to do everything is that its service follows the riding rather than the odometer. A dusty week can be answered the same evening with compressed air, a wet touring fortnight with a wash and a patient dry, and neither costs a part. The restriction the engine sees is returned to roughly where it began each time, which on a single-cylinder engine of this size matters more through the middle of the rev range, under load with luggage, than it ever does as a peak figure.
Care and cleaning
Match the service to the riding, not the odometer. A dusty week is answered that evening with compressed air, clean side outwards. A wet fortnight is answered with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, then open air until the SM219S is dry through — never heat, never a flame. It is refitted dry, because the P08 is never oiled. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CB300R from 2018 to 2026. The same SM219S element covers four machines from this airbox, the CB125R, CB150R, CB250R and CB300R, across the same model years. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
