DescriptionThe whole story▼
O-ring 16x3 NBR70, Öhlins part number 00438-01. An O-ring seals by being squeezed into its groove; the cross-section is therefore as important as the diameter.
Key Features
- Öhlins part number 00438-01
- Original Öhlins service part
- Inner Diameter 16 mm
- Material NBR 70
- Cross Section 3 mm
Function
Öhlins gives it as 16 mm, 3 mm, NBR 70; nothing about that is approximate. Static seals and dynamic seals are not interchangeable even in the same size. A leaking damper is not a cosmetic problem: it is a damper that has stopped controlling the wheel. Dust seals keep grit off the running surface; once they are torn, the oil seal behind them has a short life.
Genuine Service Part
Öhlins manufactures service parts on the same lines as production parts — there is no second quality. Öhlins publishes dimensions for its service parts so a workshop can verify before it fits. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order. If you are unsure which number your unit takes, send us the model and serial number of the damper and we will look it up.
Identifying the Right Part
Order under 00438-01. Where several sizes share a description, only the number separates them. Check inner diameter 16 mm, cross section 3 mm, material NBR 70 against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. Nitrile, Viton and PTFE behave differently with temperature, and Öhlins picks per position. A ring that has taken a set no longer springs back and starts to weep under pressure.
Fitting and Setup Service
Ask us about a full service: as an authorised Öhlins centre we strip, inspect, replace what is worn and set the unit back to its specification.
