DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki built the ZX-10RR as the homologation version of its superbike, the basis for the machines it raced in World Superbike, and in private hands many of them spend more time on circuits than on public roads. Race-weekend routines shape the way such a bike is maintained, right down to the front wheel. Accossato lists its DKS041 for the ZX-10RR of 2017 to 2021: a floating Elite disc 330 mm across, with a 5.5 mm friction ring on a black carrier and logo rivets.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Kawasaki ZX-10RR, 2017 to 2021
- Accossato Elite line, logo on each rivet
- Diameter 330 mm, centre bore 80 mm
- 5.5 mm friction ring
- Black carrier
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc per order, the front wheel takes two
- No German ABE documented; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
What the DKS041 shares with the discs on a race bike is its layout: a friction ring that floats on rivets around a separate carrier. Here the ring measures 330 mm by 5.5 mm, the carrier is black and opens to 80 mm, and the rivet heads show Accossato's logo, as on all its Elite parts. Accossato tells us that its brake disc experience stems from Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 and that the raw materials were chosen with care. It also prints the minimum working thickness on every disc, a figure worth copying into the race log.
Paddock Routine
Club racers learn to treat brake discs as consumables with a known life, not as parts that last for ever. A sensible routine starts at home: measure both front discs of the ZX-10RR with a micrometer before the first meeting of the season, write the figures down and repeat the check every few race weekends. Look for heat cracks spreading from the edge of the ring and inspect the rivets. Some free play there is normal on a floating disc; clattering, worn rivet holes or cracks are not.
At the circuit, the technical inspection before the first session often includes a look at the brakes, and a disc close to its printed minimum is hard to argue for. Many riders therefore carry a spare disc and a set of pads in the van, along with the tools to swap them in the paddock. A crash is the other reason for a spare: a front disc that has touched a kerb or a gravel trap should be checked for straightness before the bike goes out again. After each change, give the new parts a few calm laps to bed in and only then return to race pace.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DKS041 for the ZX-10RR from 2017 to 2021. The standard ZX-10R of 2016 to 2021 uses the same disc, while earlier ZX-10R models take a different one. The DKS041 replaces one original front disc; with two discs on the front wheel of the ZX-10RR and one disc per order, a complete change needs two. If the bike has been converted for racing with non-standard wheels, compare the fit with the dimensions above before fitting.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no type approval are documented for this disc. On a ZX-10RR that suits its intended use: we supply it for the track.
