DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a mountain road, a small engine asks more of the rider's left hand than a big one does. The V-Strom 250 makes its pull higher up the rev range than the large V-twins that share its name, so on a steep climb with luggage you change down often and use the clutch far more than on the flat. Accossato's ESS248 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the DL250 of 2018 to 2020, with a reach adjuster and a choice of blade lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Suzuki DL250 V-Strom, 2018 to 2020
- Replaces the lever at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- Blade short, standard (approximately 138 mm) or long, depending on colour
- Aluminium, machined on CNC equipment and anodised
- Black hub, blade in one of seven colours
- One-piece fixed construction
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's works in Villastellone, near Turin, combine CNC machining with forging presses. The ESS248 is a machined part: aluminium milled to shape, then anodised. The hub, carrying the pivot and the reach adjuster, is always black. The blade takes the colour you choose, and because anodising converts the outer layer of the metal rather than coating it, the colour wears slowly and evenly instead of chipping away. Blade and hub are fixed together without a hinge, so the lever feels the same on every pull.
Climbing a Pass on a Small Engine
Going uphill with luggage, the V-Strom 250 needs revs, and keeping them means changing down before the engine starts to labour rather than after. On a long climb with hairpins, that adds up to a great many clutch pulls in a short time, each one ideally quick and smooth: in, shift, out, with the throttle following. A lever that sits too far away turns every one of them into a stretch, and by the top of the pass your forearm knows about it. Set the ESS248 so that your fingers reach it without opening the hand fully, and each change becomes a short, quick movement. In the tightest hairpins, first gear and a slipping clutch may be needed to keep the bike moving slowly without stalling; there, the lighter pull of the long blade helps you hold the friction point steadily. On the descent, a lower gear lets the engine share the braking, and the clutch goes back to a supporting role.
Fitment and Compatibility
Which DL250 is covered? Accossato gives 2018 to 2020 for the ESS248, which fits at the original clutch mounting in place of the stock lever. Its counterpart, the EDF014 brake lever, is catalogued for the V-Strom 250 over a slightly wider span, 2017 to 2021. Long blades are made in blue, gold, green and orange; silver comes short or standard; black and red come in the standard length only.
Road Approval
This clutch lever has no documented German ABE, and we supply it for use on closed circuits.
