A Track Bike With Road Indicators
The RR leaves the factory with full lighting because it has to, and most owners change or remove the indicators within the first month. The circuit notices immediately.
Race ABS in 2009
The original S1000RR arrived with anti-lock braking and traction control as standard at a price nobody could match, and the whole class had to answer within two years.
Nothing Else Is Affected
Traction control, the quickshifter and the riding modes all read other sensors entirely. The indicator circuit is independent of every one of them.
Reversible
Unplug the eliminator and refit the standard indicators, and the circuit behaves exactly as BMW built it.
Fourteen Thousand Six Hundred
The rev ceiling on the current bike, which is higher than most of the class manages and part of why the S1000RR still feels like a different order of motorcycle. Everything on it was designed around that number.
Why the Flasher Speeds Up
The relay measures the current the indicators draw. Take a bulb out of the circuit and it reads a failure, which it signals by doubling the flash rate.
Two Versions Exist
BMW uses more than one connector across the range, so this eliminator is supplied in an A and a B form. Look at the plug on the bike before ordering.
Aftermarket Indicators
Small LED units draw a fraction of what a filament bulb does, and the relay reads that as a failure. The eliminator makes up the difference.
Fitted Once and Forgotten
There is no adjustment, no polarity to observe and nothing to configure. The unit either restores the load or it does not, and once it is plugged in it needs no further attention for the life of the motorcycle.
A Circuit That Was Never Meant to Change
BMW designed the lighting monitor around the bulbs it fitted, and it does its job well. The awkwardness only appears when an owner changes the hardware underneath it, which the manufacturer had no reason to anticipate and no obligation to accommodate.
