No Smaller Part Exists
Ducati builds the switches into the throttle housing and sells nothing between a contact and the whole assembly. That is the reason this component takes the form it does.
Positioned to Sell
Ducati priced the 899 well under the 1199 and gave it the same monocoque architecture and the same electronics. It was the sensible purchase and a great many people made it.
A Twin-Sided Swingarm
Chosen to save cost and it also saved weight and marginally improved the geometry. Ducati never advertised the second part and riders noticed it anyway.
A Decade of Weather
These motorcycles are now ten years old and the moulded assemblies have been through as many winters. What fails is the terminal under the button rather than the button itself.
Cut Rather Than Formed
The throttle bore holds a dimension a mould can only approach. After ten years that is the difference between a grip that still feels tight and one that has developed a small permanent play.
Enclosed Elements
Sealed within the body rather than behind a snap-fit lid. Clips lose tension across a decade of vibration and a solid body has none to lose.
Anodised, Not Painted
The finish is grown into the aluminium. Nothing sits on top of it, so there is nothing to lift after ten summers of sunlight and glove leather.
Two Model Years Only
The 959 replaced the 899 quickly, which has kept it scarcer than a middleweight superbike of this age would normally be. Owners tend to know exactly what they have.
The Original Plug
Factory connector, nothing cut. The change is mechanical and reverses in the same fifteen minutes it took to make.
