DescriptionThe whole story▼
The racing button arrangement on the second-generation S1000R throttle housing. The JP CO BM038L puts the blue control at the bottom of the stack.
Key Features
- BMW S1000R (2021–2026)
- Racing button layout
- Machined from a single block of Ergal 7075
- Integrated right-hand switch block
- Black anodised
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
A Racing Layout on a Roadster
It is a less obvious combination than on a superbike and a more common one than might be expected. S1000R owners take these bikes to track days in considerable numbers, and once the standard order has been unlearned on a circuit there is little reason to go back to it on the road.
The Change Itself
Red, grey, black, blue from the top, against the standard red, blue, grey, black. The blue control moves to the bottom. Nothing else about the housing differs, and the functions each button performs are unchanged.
Upright Bars Change the Approach
On a naked bike the thumb comes at the column from a different angle than it does on clip-ons, more from the side than from behind. That alters which position falls most naturally under it, which is a reasonable argument for considering the layout rather than accepting the default.
One Machined Body
Ergal 7075 cut from solid, black anodised, carrying the throttle housing and the integrated switch block together. It plugs into the motorcycle's own connector and nothing has to be rewired or coded afterwards.
The 2021 Redesign Onward
This fitment starts with the second-generation S1000R. The 2013 to 2020 bike uses different electrics and takes the BM018 housing. The models are similar enough in profile that checking the year is worth the moment it takes.
Exposed to Everything
A naked bike gives its controls no protection at all. Rain arrives directly and stays, and the housing is the only barrier. Milled from one piece with sealed contacts, this one has no seam for water to work into over several winters of daily use.
