Cut for the Cockpit
The Panigale profile accounts for the clip-on angle and the space behind the fairing. It is the version to choose when the installation should look as though Ducati had done it.
Öhlins That Think
The S's semi-active suspension reads the inertial platform and adjusts damping several times a second. On a short-wheelbase twin with this much torque, the load moves faster than any fixed setting can track.
Stylema on the Later Bikes
Brembo's lighter monobloc caliper appeared on the final 1299 S models. It is a small change with a noticeable effect on how much lever effort the front brake asks for.
Housing Without Switch
This covers the throttle assembly and nothing else. The switch block remains in place, which makes it the sensible purchase when the electrics are sound.
A Machined Bore
Cut rather than formed, so the tube stays concentric and the reading stays honest. Ten years on, that is the difference between a grip that still feels new and one that has developed play.
Black Anodising
One finish, converted into the metal. Against red bodywork and gold suspension it is the component that steps out of the conversation.
Aerospace Grade
Ergal 7075 at roughly twice the strength of ordinary machined alloy. It is harder to cut and it does not deform when the motorcycle goes over.
The Superleggera's Cousin
Ducati built 500 Superleggeras on this platform with carbon frames and wheels. The 1299 S is the closest thing most people will own to one and it is not very far away.
Desmodromic Valves
Ducati closes its valves mechanically instead of with springs, which is what lets an engine with this bore rev the way it does. Nobody else has thought the complexity worthwhile for fifty years.
