Eighty-Seven More Cubic Centimetres
Ducati took the Superquadro to 1285 cc for 2015 by lengthening the stroke, which raised output to 205 hp and, more importantly, filled in the midrange the 1199 had been criticised for.
Cornering ABS and an IMU
The 1299 gained a Bosch inertial platform, lean-sensitive braking and wheelie control. It turned a difficult motorcycle into one that a competent rider could use most of.
The Last Twin Superbike
Ducati's final V-twin flagship before the V4 arrived in 2018. It closed an era that had run since the 851, and values have reflected that ever since.
Housing, Not Switch
This component replaces the throttle assembly and leaves the switch block alone. It is the appropriate purchase when the electrics are healthy and only the plastic needs addressing.
A Sensor in a Bore
Ride-by-wire means the housing carries a position sensor rather than a cable drum. Play between the tube and the body becomes noise in what the ECU reads at small openings.
Black Anodised
Converted into the aluminium. It keeps the cockpit quiet on a motorcycle whose bodywork is already saying everything that needs saying.
Aerospace Alloy
Ergal 7075 rather than ordinary machined aluminium, at roughly twice the yield strength. It matters on a part that is clamped to a handlebar and expected to stay exactly where it was put.
What Fails on the Original
Not the mechanism but the fit. The clipped halves lose tension over years of vibration and the grip develops a small amount of movement that never goes away again.
A Hundred and Sixteen Newton Metres
The stroke increase gave the 1299 substantially more torque than the 1199 and it arrived far lower in the range. On a road that mattered more than the extra ten horsepower, and it is the main reason the 1299 is the easier of the two to ride quickly.
