With a Different Control Unit
Machines running an aftermarket engine control unit expect a different arrangement at the throttle, which is why the catalogue lists a second assembly for the same motorcycle.
A Track Argument First
The case is strongest where the throttle is opened and closed hard and often. On a long motorway run the shorter sweep is simply a different habit.
Free Play
A standard assembly develops a small dead zone at the closed position with age. A machined one starts without it and keeps it that way.
Torque at the Bar
The clamp screws are small and thread into aluminium. The figures are low and worth looking up rather than guessing at on a handlebar.
What the Number Means at the Bar
Sixty degrees is a third of a turn less than many standard assemblies ask for. On the bar that is the difference between reaching full throttle and running out of wrist.
What It Does Not Do
No extra power, no different fuelling, no change to any rider aid. Anybody expecting the motorcycle to accelerate harder has misread the part.
The Diagnostic Appointment
Book it before the spanners come out. A motorcycle with a new throttle assembly and no reset is a motorcycle that stays in the garage.
Storing What Comes Off
Plastic will not corrode but the connector will. The standard assembly belongs in a labelled bag on a dry shelf with its fasteners, kept with the motorcycle. A reversible change is only reversible if somebody can find the parts.
Selling the Motorcycle
The standard part goes back in half an hour plus a reset. Buyers who wanted a short-stroke throttle would have bought one themselves, and buyers who did not will treat its absence as a reason to negotiate.
