The Naked Bike Got the Update
Aprilia gave the Tuono the same six-axis platform and revised controls as the superbike while leaving the 1077 cc engine and the wide bars alone. Nobody asked for those to change.
Race Layout, Road Bike
The rearranged column suits anyone who rides track days on a Tuono, which is a larger group than the bodywork suggests. The blue button at the bottom is found under braking without a conscious decision.
Torque Rather Than Peak
A hundred and twenty-one newton metres across a wide band is what defines this motorcycle. The peak power number is beside the point on a bike whose rider is rarely in a position to use fourteen thousand revs.
Unfamiliar Roads
Cornering ABS matters more on a road nobody has ridden before than on a circuit learned over years. The Tuono is the Aprilia most likely to meet gravel on the exit of a blind corner.
The 2017 Block
This part number fits the revised assembly. Earlier Tuonos take the TC version and the two are not interchangeable in either direction despite the family resemblance.
Four Anodised Colours
Black, blue, red and titanium, converted into the surface. A naked bike shows its cockpit to everyone, not only to the rider, which makes the finish slightly more consequential.
Sealed Against Direct Weather
Nothing on a Tuono deflects anything. Water arrives at the block at road speed and works into any joint it finds, which a one-piece machined body simply does not provide.
Original Plug
Pre-wired to Aprilia's connector, so nothing is spliced or extended. Fifteen minutes with the bar end off and the job is finished.
