The JP ES 007 is what stops the Hypermotard 821 reporting a secondary air fault once the solenoid has been unbolted from the cylinder head and taken off the motorcycle.

Eight Hundred and Twenty-One Cubic Centimetres
The first liquid-cooled Hypermotard engine, making a hundred and ten horsepower and considerably smoother than the air-cooled 1100 it replaced.
Where the Crackle Comes From
Residue igniting in a hot header on a trailing throttle. It is not the fuelling and it is not the silencer, and no map has ever cured it.
The Filter Tells You
Pull the airbox lid on a high-mileage Ducati and the state of the element shows whether the reeds have been passing gas the wrong way.
Fitted With an Exhaust
Almost every Ducati that gets this part also gets a silencer, and doing both in one session means the new system is never blamed for a noise it did not cause.
On a Bike With a Slip-On
Half the exhaust is standard and the overrun is already louder than it was. The valve is the difference between a pleasant note and a constant crackle.
A Cold Morning
The system is most active during warm-up, which is when the crackle is loudest and when a failing solenoid is most likely to be caught by the self-test.
Two Connectors Across the Range
Ducati has used more than one plug over the years, which is why the part is listed against specific model years rather than sold as a universal item.
Why the Solenoid Is the Part That Dies
It is a coil switching a small valve, bolted within a hand's width of a cylinder head and cycled every time the engine runs through its warm-up. Insulation ages under that treatment in a way that has nothing to do with how far the motorcycle has been ridden, which is why low-mileage machines turn up with exactly the same fault as hard-worked ones.
Cold Start Is When It Runs
The system does its work in the first minutes after ignition, when the catalyst is still warming and the mixture is richest. A fault therefore often appears on a cold morning and disappears from the rider's mind by the time the motorcycle is warm, which is exactly why the warning stays on the panel.
