The Long-Range Version
A larger tank, more protection and a taller screen on the lighter F900GS platform. BMW built it for riders crossing continents rather than for a weekend on gravel.
A Bigger Tank Works the System Harder
More fuel warmed by sun and engine produces more vapour for a canister that has not grown to match. Saturation arrives sooner on this variant than on the standard bike.
What Stays
The tank, its pump and the intake are untouched. Only the vapour recovery path is affected.
Filling Completely, Every Time
Long-distance riders top up to the brim whenever they can, which is precisely the behaviour that forces liquid fuel into the bed and ruins it.
Where That Leaves You
Hard starting and an uneven idle, generally a long way from a dealer. It is a practical reason for the conversion rather than a theoretical one.
Sealed Against Tipping
The fitting admits air and holds fuel back when the motorcycle goes over, which is precisely what the original roll-over arrangement was there to do.
The Valve on the Intake Side
It meters stored vapour into the engine and it is the part the electronics actually monitor. The vessel itself is invisible to them.
Mounting Space
Panniers, crash bars and a rally exhaust all want the area behind the engine. Clearing the canister is often what makes the rest fit without improvisation.
Nothing Cut
The single most important property of the kit. Cut a line or a connector and the decision stops being reversible.
The Honest Position
This is emissions equipment. Removing it lowers nothing about the bike's performance and does change its legal standing.
A Screen That Works
Taller than the standard bike's and shaped to move air over the rider rather than into their helmet. On a motorcycle intended for full days in the saddle it is worth more than several of the electronic features it is sold alongside.
