The Approachable GS
A lower seat, cast wheels and a nineteen inch front. BMW built the F700GS for riders who wanted the badge and the comfort without the height that comes with a proper off-road front end.
Seventy-Five Horsepower
From the same 798 cc twin as everything else in the family, restricted rather than redesigned. It made the bike accessible on a licence that the F800GS was not.
The Assembly Behind the Engine
Carbon canister, bracket, purge valve and three lines. On a bike carrying luggage and a pillion, the area they occupy is contested by things that matter more.
Hoses on a Rough Road
Lines running to a plastic vessel are exactly what chafes through on a machine ridden over gravel with a full load. Removing them removes a failure that happens far from a workshop.
Saturation at the Pump
Filling past the click pushes liquid fuel into the carbon and the bed never recovers. Hard starting and a rough idle follow, and the cause is almost never suspected.
Not Simply an Open Pipe
Cutting the vapour line short and leaving it is the usual improvisation. It works until the motorcycle lies on its side and then it very much does not.
Why the Valve Cannot Just Be Pulled
Its coil is measured, and an open circuit is a fault code. This kit answers the measurement instead of hiding from it.
Market Dependent
BMW fitted this only where regulations demanded it. Looking under the tank before ordering is worth the five minutes it takes.
Nothing Permanent
No holes are drilled, no lines are shortened and no connectors are cut. The motorcycle can be returned to standard at any point.
