DescriptionThe whole story▼
Bringing a big adventure bike upright from its side stand is a small moment every rider of a Tiger 1200 XCx Low knows well. The Low stands for a seat closer to the ground, a choice many shorter riders make so their feet reach the tarmac more easily, and here it comes with the off-road leanings of the XCx. In the second before the bike rolls, the front brake has a quiet job to do. Accossato's EDF014 for the XCx Low, listed for 2016 and 2017, is a machined aluminium lever whose reach can be set for a smaller hand.
Key Features
- Replaces the brake lever of the Tiger 1200 XCx Low, 2016 and 2017
- Mounts on the original master cylinder of the Tiger 1200 series
- Adjuster close to the pivot for the distance to the grip
- Three blade lengths; standard roughly 138 mm
- Machined aluminium, anodised, always with a black hub
- Blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Fixed, non-folding design
- No German ABE documented, for track use only
Construction and Material Quality
Holding a heavy motorcycle on the front brake puts a steady load through the lever, and a rigid part suits that job. The EDF014 is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment instead of being cast, then anodised: black on the hub that carries the pivot and the reach adjuster, a colour of your choice on the blade. With no folding joint between hub and tip, nothing gives way when you squeeze hard and hold. The anodised skin also copes well with the dust and grit an XCx Low collects away from the tarmac.
Off the Stand on Sloping Ground
On level tarmac, lifting the bike off its side stand is routine. In a sloping gravel lay-by, or where you parked facing downhill at the end of a track, it is another matter: as the Tiger 1200 comes upright, gravity wants to roll it forward, and a big adventure bike that starts moving while still leaning is hard to catch. Squeeze the front brake firmly before you begin to lift, keep squeezing while hips and legs bring the bike upright, and let go only once both feet are planted and the machine is balanced. The lower seat of the XCx Low helps with the last part; the lever helps with the first. If the blade sits far out, a smaller hand ends up holding it with the fingertips, where grip is weakest. Bring the reach in until the middle sections of your fingers wrap around the blade, and the brake will hold while you concentrate on balance.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF014 for the Low versions of the Tiger 1200 Explorer of 2016 and 2017 in one entry and does not name them individually. The XCx Low was one of those versions, and the lever sits on the original master cylinder of the series, so we offer it here for the XCx Low of those two model years; from 2018 Triumph no longer built an XCx Low. No clutch lever appears in the entry, so the brake lever is sold on its own. Long blades exist in four colours, short ones in five.
Road Approval
We have no German ABE on record for this brake lever; it is sold for track riding.
Scope of Delivery
Delivered on its own in an Accossato box: one brake lever, blade finished in the colour and length you chose.
