DescriptionThe whole story▼

Born from over two decades of Italian racing development, the KYT KX-1 Race GP in Plain Matte Black represents the purest expression of what a competition helmet should be. Designed entirely in Italy using the same engineering processes that underpin MotoGP and WorldSBK programmes, the KX-1 Race GP strips away decoration and lets performance speak. The Y6KX00X6 in matte black is the canvas of champions — a blank slate built for team liveries, sponsor graphics, or simply the uncompromising confidence of riders who need nothing more than flawless function.

Key Features

  • FIM homologation alongside ECE 22.06, granting approval for all international racing series and the highest tier of competition use
  • Tri-Fiber composite shell combining carbon, aramid fibres and fibreglass for exceptional rigidity at minimal weight — approximately 1,400 g in size M
  • Wind-tunnel-refined aerodynamics with a measured drag coefficient of Cx 0.33 on the straight and Cx 0.39 in lean, making it the most aerodynamically efficient KYT model
  • Panoramic 92° vertical and 210° peripheral field of vision — among the widest in the racing helmet segment
  • Pinlock 120-compatible visor with metal mechanism and quick-release system, plus a racing-optimised seal to eliminate fogging and buffeting
  • HydroCool interior lining with moisture-wicking performance, hydration-system compatibility and emergency cheek-pad release for trackside safety

Heritage, Design and Finish

The Plain Matte Black finish of the KX-1 Race GP is a deliberate statement. Where graphics shout, this helmet commands quiet authority. The deep, absorptive matte surface gives the shell a purposeful, aggressive presence that reads as professional in the pit lane and sophisticated on the road. For teams wanting a foundation for custom liveries, or for riders who prefer their helmet to reflect their riding rather than a paint department, this is the defining choice in the KYT range.

Conceived and designed entirely in Italy, the KX-1 Race GP carries the aesthetic DNA of a factory race programme. Every surface transition, every intake duct and every exhaust port has been shaped with function first — and the plain black finish ensures none of that sculptural work is lost beneath a layer of graphics.

Shell Construction and Protection

The Tri-Fiber composite shell is the structural heart of the KX-1 Race GP. The combination of carbon, aramid (Kevlar-family) fibres and fibreglass is calibrated to deliver the ideal balance between torsional stiffness and impact energy distribution. The result is a shell that resists deformation under high-speed impact loads while remaining light enough that neck fatigue is not a factor across a full race distance or trackday session.

Double-D-ring retention ensures the helmet stays precisely in position under braking and lateral forces — there is no substitute in a race environment.

Aerodynamics and Ventilation

Wind-tunnel development was central to the KX-1 Race GP programme rather than an afterthought. The measured Cx values — 0.33 on the straight, 0.39 in lean — mean the helmet generates minimal lift and drag at race speeds. Riders will notice the absence of head buffeting that plagues less developed designs at high velocity.

Five air intakes and two extractors create a directed airflow channel through the helmet. Combined with the HydroCool lining, this system keeps the rider's head cool during intense summer trackdays and extended road sessions alike. The ventilation system is fully operable with gloves on.

Visor System

The metal visor mechanism offers tactile, precise adjustment and stands up to the repeated opening and closing cycles that race use demands. Pinlock 120 compatibility — with a Pinlock insert included — eliminates fogging in wet or cold conditions. The quick-release visor system allows changes to be made without tools, which matters when light conditions shift mid-session.

Comfort and Rider-Specific Features

The KX-1 Race GP is built around a race-fit geometry — snug, stable and low-profile. Riders who wear glasses will find a glasses channel is present, though the tight race-fit should be considered before purchase. The hydration-system-ready configuration allows a drinking tube to be routed internally, and the emergency cheek-pad release system means medical personnel can remove the helmet safely in the event of an incident.

Bluetooth communication systems can be fitted using compatible universal mounting solutions, though KYT do not list a proprietary integrated speaker pocket for this model; fitment will depend on the specific system chosen.

Fitment and Compatibility

The KX-1 Race GP is a universal full-face helmet approved to ECE 22.06 and FIM standards. It is suitable for road use in all ECE 22.06 territories and for competition use in FIM-sanctioned events. The following sizes are available, based on the shell and EPS combinations used by KYT:

  • XS — 53 to 54 cm
  • S — 55 to 56 cm
  • M — 57 to 58 cm
  • L — 59 to 60 cm
  • XL — 61 to 62 cm
  • XXL — 63 cm

The race-fit geometry is compact and performance-oriented. Riders transitioning from a touring or sport-touring helmet should try the KX-1 Race GP before committing to size, or consult the KYT size chart carefully.
